MTN's No 2 s'holder backs Bharti deal
JOHANNESBURG: MTN's No 2 shareholder, Lebanon's Mikati family, said it supported merger talks with Bharti Airtel and would vote in favour of a $23 billion cash and share swap.
Azmi Mikati, CEO of the family's M1 Group, said in a telephone interview that a proposed deal, under which the firms take stakes in each other, was "fair for all parties" and said the family would back it if a firm offer was made."We are fully supportive of the transaction. It will add value for both Bharti Airtel and MTN shareholders," said Mikati, who is also a non-executive member of MTN's board, according to the latest annual report."
We will vote in favour of it. We don't look at any transaction with a short-term view, but through a long-term view."

Game, set and match: Sania’s ‘doubles’ win
Hyderabad: It’s a love game that tennis sensation Sania Mirza is racing away with, leaving countless young men with dashed hopes and broken hearts.
She may be out of the French Open singles but her doubles challenge, in more ways than one, is steaming ahead. For, according to a family source, Sania’s betrothal to a Hyderabadi boy, Sohrab Mirza, has just been arranged.
For those looking for juicy hows and whys, here’s a dampener: There have been no secret dates and no “we’re just good friends’’ denials. The families of Sania and Sohrab have been friends for years. They discussed the proposal some time back and agreed, the source said.
Sohrab, Sania’s future husband, is the son of Adil Mirza and Noora Begum, who own Universal Bakers, a chain of outlets popular in Hyderabad.
Sohrab, 23, is a year older than Sania and has a B Com from St Mary’s College. He has been accepted into a British MBA programme and is expected to fly to the UK soon.
Sohrab’s paternal grandfather, Samad Shakebai, better known as Samad Seth, is an Iranian businessman who married into Hyderabadi nobility and set up restaurants. The family also has a real estate business.
“The wedding date has not been fixed. Sania wants to continue playing for some more time while the boy completes his studies. It may take some time before the families agree on a date,’’ the source said.
A good thing about this match is that Sania will not have to worry about changing her last name. It’s advantage Mirza.

Katie Holmes wants more sex!
The actress is growing increasingly frustrated with Cruise’s hectic schedules
Katie Holmes wants to have more sex with husband Tom Cruise. The actress, who has a three-year-old daughter, Suri, with the Hollywood superstar, is reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with the couple’s hectic schedule and is keen to spend more intimate time with Tom.
A source revealed, “Katie has become noticeably more miserable in the last few months. She finds it incredibly taxing to lead a life that revolves around Tom, but that doesn’t include enough intimate time with him to be genuinely fulfiling. She doesn’t just want to go to red-carpet events with him. She always feels like she’s competing for Tom’s attention.”
And friends are reportedly worried about the former Dawson’s Creek star, who is said to be becoming isolated from her Los Angeles social circle.
The source added, “Everyone is worried that she’s close to breaking point. Katie spends most days alone looking after Suri. She’s a devoted mother, but it’s a lonely job. She and Tom have such separate lives.”

Investment & Wealth Creation Advice:
Please note that our advice is primarily for investors and not for speculators. Investors typically invest with 12-60 month investment perspective. You will therefore find that our advice does not change substantially from issue to issue.
We expect Sensex to come down to 8000-9000 level in the next few months. We expect Aug-Oct 09 period to be a very good period for making investments in good stocks / mutual funds in India. So, do plan your investments in advance.
Also, those who want to invest in realty in India should wait for some time as the flat and land prices are expected to come down substantially in the next 3-4 quarters.
Do consult your investment advisor before making any investment decisions.
Do not purchase shares of a good company at a wrong price. Also, do not purchase shares of a bad company even at a very low price.
Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your portfolio to de-risk. Do not put more than 33% of your investible funds in stocks and/or mutual funds. Put 33% in Fixed-Interest instruments and the remaining 33% in real estate when real estate prices are low.
Do not invest in stocks, mutual funds or realty when their prices are quite high. From the high levels, these prices normally come down by about 40-50% and that is when many people lose their hard earned money in a big way.
Make sure that you are not one of those big losers.
Make sure that you invest when prices are low (and that is the case in 2009) and divest when prices are high (which will be the case in Q1-2011).
Please note that Aug-Oct 2009 is expected to be a great period for investing your money in stocks & mutual funds in India.
