Boston’s next on Bollywood stop (BT,Mum,05Jan09,Pg1)
John Abraham invited by Massachusetts governor to shoot new love story there

Never mind New York and LA, the place for Bollywood to shop for its next sets is Boston. Yes, that’s where John Abraham has been invited to shoot his new film 1-800-Love by Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, the first African-American to hold that office in US.

The film’s co-producer, Madhu Mantena of Ghajini fame, confirmed Patrick’s invitation and said, “No Bollywood film has been shot in Boston before.”

Fellow producers of 1-800-Love include John himself, director Abbas Tyrewala, music composer A R Rahman and director of photography Manoj Lobo. The idea behind the formation of this production team being to “build a sense of ownership within the film”.

According to Madhu, “Filmmaking doesn’t work today unless all the major talent has a stake. It’s the only way to build trust within the project. So all of us go into the Boston project as partners.” He’s not admitting it, but the story is that Aamir Khan had a considerable stake in Ghajini and now it’s John.

Madhu said, however, that he intends making all his leading men his business partners in future projects. The team shoots in Boston from May to July for 1-800-Love which stars Abbas Tyrewala’s wife Pakhi opposite John in an intense love story. “Every single shot will be taken in Boston. It will be expensive. The dollar has gone up. So I’m a little scared,” said Madhu who is happy, though, raking in the moolah Ghajini generated for him.
