Ghosn & Bajaj sink differences
To Announce Details Of JV For Ultra Low-Cost Car Today

BAJAJAuto and Nissan-Renault have resolved their differences and are set to announce the details of the proposed joint venture for making the ultra low-cost car on Tuesday.

Nissan Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn met Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj Monday evening to settle issues relating to branding and the basic concept of the car that were delaying the project.

Mr Ghosn’s India strategy has come under pressure lately because of the poor performance of the Logan sedan which Renault makes and markets in India in partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra.

Indian-origin student among 4 South Asians stabbed in London

LONDON: Four people suffered stab wounds after a mob of white and black youths set upon Muslim Asian students - including at least six of Indian origin - near the prestigious City University in north London, police and student groups said on Tuesday.

Three students and a passerby who tried to intervene had to be hospitalised with facial and head injuries when a 30-strong mob armed with knives, metal poles, bricks and sticks attacked South Asian students Thursday, police said.

Kingfisher aircraft skids while landing, no casualties

MUMBAI: A Kingfisher Airlines ATR-72 aircraft skidded off the runway Tuesday evening while landing at Mumbai airport, officials said. All 42 passengers and crew onboard were safe.

Flight IT-4124 arrived from Bhavnagar and landed at Mumbai airport which had been witnessing low visibility due to rains and cloudy skies since early Tuesday morning.

Being a Tuesday, only half the main runway was being used and only smaller aircraft were allowed to operate between 12-6 pm, as announced last month by the airport authorities.

‘Life IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT’
With low life expectancy figures for Mumbaiites just out, some people who’ve gone beyond the mean reveal to BT what keeps them going...

When Dr Spock from the evergreen Star Trek first uttered the farewell phrase ‘live long and prosper’, he surely didn’t have Mumbaiites in mind, if the recent results of a life-expectancy survey are anything to go by. For those living in Mumbai, the life expectancy figures are 52.6 years for men, 58.1 for women and a general average of 56.8!

Place these figures next to the rest-of-India average of 63.7 and a Maharashtra (men 67.7; women 71.27) tally, and the results are indeed a cause for concern. Yes, it is true that Mumbaiites lead high-stress lives and have unhealthy lifestyles, and a greater part of the population lives below the poverty line... but there are many among us well above the average lifespan figure who continue to live long and prosper, too. BT spoke to a few prominent Mumbaiites from among them and here’s what keeps them going...

DEV ANAND
I’m mostly happy with my work. If I’m not working then I’m not happy. That’s what keeps me going!

DEEPAK PAREKH
I sleep well at night and that’s because I know that if whatever I do was to be made public, it would be absolutely fine. Corruption is a malaise that invades the very being of this country. Sleeping well is a great indicator of how clean you are. Also, I love to enjoy myself with watching cricket, playing bridge and being in the company of my grandchildren. A good balance of things in life contributes to my wellbeing.

HEMA MALINI
I do a lot of dancing and try to keep myself physically active. It’s also about looking and feeling young from within. And dietary habits, yes!

ASHA BHOSLE
I actually love a little bit of stress, as it keeps my mind active and ticking! But seriously, singing is something I love with all my heart and it keeps me going.

DR B K GOYAL
I do regular exercise, which should be part of your regimen as much as eating your daily meals. I go for long walks and swim four to five times a week. I have never smoked, or taken paan or betel nut. Also, from my younger days, I have been always devoted to my work, it has become a religion to me. Good sound sleep is a sign that you are leading a good life. Avoid what I call ‘mad ambitions’.

Investment & Wealth Creation Advice:

Please note that our advice is primarily for investors and not for speculators. Investors typically invest with 12-60 month investment perspective. You will therefore find that our advice does not change substantially from issue to issue.

We expect Sensex to go up to about 19,000 by the first week of January, 2010. After that there could be a sudden fall of 30-40% in a couple of months. After that the 3-4 year bull run will commence. So, invest & divest with care in the next couple of months.

Also, those who want to invest in realty in India should wait for some time as the flat and land prices are expected to come down further in the next few of months.

Do consult your investment advisor before making any investment decisions.

Do not purchase shares of a good company at a wrong (high) price. Also, do not purchase shares of a bad company even at a very low price.

Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your portfolio to de-risk. Do not put more than 33% of your investible funds in stocks and/or mutual funds. Put 33% in Fixed-Interest instruments and the remaining 33% in real estate when real estate prices are low.

Do not invest in stocks, mutual funds or realty when their prices are quite high. From the high levels, these prices normally come down by about 40-50% and that is when many people lose their hard earned money in a big way.

Make sure that you are not one of those big losers.

Also, never take any loan to invest in stocks or mutual funds.

Make sure that you invest when prices are low and divest when prices are high (which will be the case in Q1-2011).
