Indians attacked in Australia

NEW DELHI: As Indians again became a target of violence in Australia after a brief lull, external affairs ministry on Tuesday sought a report from its mission there amid an emphasis that more needs to be done to prevent such occurrences.

The consulate in Melbourne has been asked to give a report on the alleged incident in which three Indian youth were badly thrashed in an apparent racist attack, official sources said.India, which has been concerned over the attacks, has been assured by the Australian government at the highest level that it would take steps to ensure safety and security of Indian nationals in that country.

Sonia flies economy, MP red-faced

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday flew economy class in an Air India flight from Delhi to Mumbai, sending out a clear message that the UPA government’s austerity plan would have to be enforced in letter and spirit by ministers and all party functionaries. One doesn’t know how many will actually follow her lead but for one Congress leader at least, Sonia’s austerity led to an immediate change of travel plans.

First-time Congress MP Suresh Tawre, who was seated in the business class on the same flight, was taken by complete surprise when, minutes before takeoff, his party chief sailed past him and occupied a window seat in the economy class. A highly embarrassed Tawre promptly sought a downgrade and exchanged his business seat with a Sikh co-passenger from the economy class.

Social Networking Website for Senior Indians Launched

ISMore has launched a social networking website, Verdurez.com, for Indians and NRIs aged 55 years and above to connect and engage with fellow senior surfers. The aim is to reduce the feeling of loneliness and isolation which comes with old age and promote life after fifty-five.

Verdurez members can network through blogs, forums, book club, image galleries, polls, daily discussions, classifieds and chat rooms. They can further read health, lifestyle and money related articles, look at editor's pick of news from the web and play logic puzzles. Membership is free to all.

The website also hopes to raise awareness of senior citizens' needs. In its latest poll 'Should the Indian Government have Ministry of Senior Citizens', over 70% of members voted in favour.

Many Verdurians have been vocal about their need to make friends, have space to voice their thoughts without being judged by younger generation and remain active. One member feels Verdurez helps bring out their "pachpan ka bachpan".

According to a 2006 report by Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), the number of senior Indians going on-line is rapidly increasing. The study shows that "these are successful senior Indians enjoying living life to the full and have adopted & adapted to technology and predominantly use it for emotional reasons."

The name Verdurez comes from the word verdure, which means freshness and flourishing vegetation. This reflects the promoter's belief that life doesn't stop when one reaches a certain age, a new phase in life begins which can equally flourish with vigour and freshness.

About ISMore:

Verdurez.com is promoted by Ishita Sukhadwala, a London-based web-preneur and co-founder of DogMateOnline, a website for dog owners looking for a mate for their dog.

PC-Harman share a special bond, still!

Some matters of the heart are hard to forget. Ask Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja, who still seem to share a special bond. Though the couple — who is all set to be seen together again in What’s Your Raashee? — has always maintained silence about their now ex-love affair, the two still have a soft spot for each other, or their gifts at least.

Almost a year back, when the duo was asked about the most romantic thing someone’s done for them or the most romantic thing they’ve done for someone at separate interviews, the two had co-incidentally mentioned the same gift, but without mentioning the names of the person involved.

For the Bollywood hottie, the best gift she ever recieved was a CD of her fave 12 tracks — one for each month — with a couplet/poem recorded before every song. Incidentally, the best gift Harman had ever given his special someone was also the same. And it didn’t take long for anyone to figure out who the special ones in their lives were.

Well, a year later, when the two have reportedly already moved on, but were asked the same question, surprisingly enough, unknown to each other, the two replied the same answer this time around too.

Seems like this private former couple may have tried to keep their love life under wraps, but their affection for each other is more than obvious even today. And reports of the sizzling chemistry the two share in their forthcoming film is no secret either. Wonder if their ‘special connection’ is too special to ever be broken!

Investment & Wealth Creation Advice:

Please note that our advice is primarily for investors and not for speculators. Investors typically invest with 12-60 month investment perspective. You will therefore find that our advice does not change substantially from issue to issue.

We expect Sensex to come down to about 11,000 level in the next couple of months. We expect October 09 period to be a very good period for making investments in good BSE/NSE index-stocks / mutual funds in India. So, do plan your investments in advance. Do systematic investment (SIP) during these 2 months.

Also, those who want to invest in realty in India should wait for some time as the flat and land prices are expected to come down substantially in the next 1-2 quarters.

Do consult your investment advisor before making any investment decisions.

Do not purchase shares of a good company at a wrong (high) price. Also, do not purchase shares of a bad company even at a very low price.

Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your portfolio to de-risk. Do not put more than 33% of your investible funds in stocks and/or mutual funds. Put 33% in Fixed-Interest instruments and the remaining 33% in real estate when real estate prices are low.

Do not invest in stocks, mutual funds or realty when their prices are quite high. From the high levels, these prices normally come down by about 40-50% and that is when many people lose their hard earned money in a big way.

Make sure that you are not one of those big losers.

Make sure that you invest when prices are low (and that is the case in 2009) and divest when prices are high (which will be the case in Q1-2011).

Please note that October 2009 is expected to be a great month for investing your money in stocks & mutual funds in India.
