Women rank 1-2-3 in UPSC exam

New Delhi: Forget about breaching the glass ceiling, this comes close to smashing it. The top three ranks in the prestigious Civil Services (main) exam this year have been bagged by women. In all, as many as ten women have made it to the top 25.

Shubhra Saxena from Ghaziabad has topped the exam, while Sharandeep Kaur Brar from Chandigarh and Kiran Kaushal from Raipur have secured the second and third ranks, according to the results announced by the Union Public Services Commission on Monday.

2 held in Anil sabotage case

Mumbai: Uday Warekar (32) and Palraj Thevar (38), the two suspects arrested in the Anil Ambani chopper sabotage case late on Sunday, had threatened key witness Bharat Borge, who was run over by a local train under mysterious circumstances last week, sources said.

The duo was arrested by the crime branch for tampering with the aircraft’s gearbox by putting in pebbles and gravel. They were working as helpers with Air Works, which was in charge of the maintenance of the ADA group’s Bell 412 aircraft for nearly 15 years.

Crime branch sources said the conspiracy had been planned and finetuned for a month. “Warekar is one of the masterminds. He executed the plan along with Thevar. We believe more people were involved,’’ joint CP (crime) Rakesh Maria said. Seven peanut-sized pebbles and gravel, collected from the area near the airport, were planted in the gearbox.

Bharti’s $2-b telecom network contract up for grabs

INDIA’S largest mobile company Bharti Airtel’s over $2-billion network outsourcing contract will be up for grabs soon. With its current multi-billion dollar network outsourcing deals with equipment majors Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) coming up for renewal next year, the telco will start inviting bids from global equipment vendors in the next couple of months.

According to people familiar with developments at Bharti Airtel, Ericsson and NSN will not be guaranteed an automatic extension, but will have to compete with other potential bidders.

‘There’s no MP in my life!’
... says Isha Sharwani of the rumour linking her to a rising Congress politician

Don’t know how far this is true, but the buzz in Delhi and Mumbai is pretty strong... it seems the pretty and petite Isha Sharwani is dating a young and charming MP from the Congress Party.

Friends of the pixie-like actress-dancer-model, who debuted in Bollywood opposite Vivek Oberoi in Kisna, have said that the two got together after the MP saw and liked Isha’s performance in Zoya Akhtar’s recent hit Luck By Chance. And that they have been discreetly meeting ever since, even though he has been kept busy with the current Lok Sabha elections.

The politician, a dashing and rising star if ever the Indian political scene had one, is also known to have other close friends in Bollywood; though his life has been blameless so far and not mired by the kind of controversies the filmi-neta nexus has always thrown up.

Asking him about his so-called relationship with the lovely actress was out, but Isha said indignantly of this hot and cosy scene, “What? This is the most ridiculous rumour I have heard about myself till date. It’s completely baseless. Yes, right now I am in Delhi, but I know nothing about ‘him’ having watched Luck by Chance or having liked my performance.”

However, this is the same girl who had in the past similarly denied her relationship with the goodlooking Team India bowler Zaheer Khan. Maybe the actress, who is currently busy working on a dance show for theatre called Kali, is savvy enough to know that the last thing her MP-ji wants before the poll results are out... is the news of his entering into a new alliance!

Investment & Wealth Creation Advice:

Please note that our advice is primarily for investors and not for speculators. Investors typically invest with 12-60 month investment perspective. You will therefore find that our advice does not change substantially from issue to issue.

We expect Sensex to come down to 8000-9000 level in the next few months. We expect Aug-Oct 09 period to be a very good period for making investments in good stocks / mutual funds in India. So, do plan your investments in advance.

Also, those who want to invest in realty in India should wait for some time as the flat and land prices are expected to come down substantially in the next 3-4 quarters.

Do consult your investment advisor before making any investment decisions.

Do not purchase shares of a good company at a wrong price. Also, do not purchase shares of a bad company even at a very low price.

Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your portfolio to de-risk. Do not put more than 33% of your investible funds in stocks and/or mutual funds. Put 33% in Fixed-Interest instruments and the remaining 33% in real estate when real estate prices are low.

Do not invest in stocks, mutual funds or realty when their prices are quite high. From the high levels, these prices normally come down by about 40-50% and that is when many people lose their hard earned money in a big way.

Make sure that you are not one of those big losers.

Make sure that you invest when prices are low (and that is the case in 2009) and divest when prices are high (which will be the case in Q1-2011).

Please note that Aug-Oct 2009 is expected to be a great period for investing your money in stocks & mutual funds in India.
