Dieting to lose just 5kg can add 4 yrs to your face (TOI,Mum,01Apr09,Pg15)
Losing as little as 5kg, the equivalent of about one dress size, can age a woman by four years, a new study reported. Meanwhile, having plump cheeks and soft features helps maintain an air of youth, scientists discovered.
‘Bondage sex helps couples bond’ (TOI,Mum,01Apr09,Pg15)
London: Spanking during sex might be stressful at first but it helps bring couples closer together, according to a study.
According to scientists from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, sadomasochistic (S&M) activities like spanking, bondage, and flogging increase relationship closeness.
During the study, lead researcher Brad Sagarin looked at 13 men and women at an S&M party in Arizona, United States, and measured the levels of the stress hormone cortisol during and after participating in the activities.
The researcher found a significant increase in cortisol levels in those receiving stimulation, but dropped back to normal within 40 minutes if the scene went well. However, there was no change in those inflicting the activity.
For further analysis, the scientists again studied an S&M event in Colorado, and found that testosterone was measured in 45 men and women. There was a significant increase in receiving women only.
Donatella Marazziti of the University of Pisa, Italy, said that the boost might help women cope with the aggressive nature of S&M activities, or that it could be another sign of stress.
The researchers found that couples who said that the party went well also reported increases in relationship closeness.
“When sexual intercourse is consensual it is not stressful — even if it is extreme sex,” New Scientist magazine quoted Marazziti as saying.
Richard Wiseman, a psychologist at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, UK, also said that any shared activity was likely to promote interpersonal closeness.
Nick Neave, a psychologist at the University of Northumbria, UK, says the results are interesting, but future studies should control for whether participants experienced orgasm, which is associated with reduced stress and an increase in hormones associated with partner-bonding and affection.

Investment & Wealth Creation Advice:
Please note that our advice is primarily for investors and not for speculators. Investors typically invest with 12-60 month investment perspective. You will therefore find that our advice does not change substantially from issue to issue.
We expect Sensex to come down to 6000-7000 level in the next few months. We expect Aug-Oct 09 period to be a very good period for making investments in good stocks / mutual funds in India. So, do plan your investments in advance.
Also, those who want to invest in realty in India should wait for some time as the flat and land prices are expected to come down substantially in the next 3-4 quarters.
Do consult your investment advisor before making any investment decisions.
Do not purchase shares of a good company at a wrong price. Also, do not purchase shares of a bad company even at a very low price.
Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your portfolio to de-risk. Do not put more than 33% of your investible funds in stocks and/or mutual funds.
Do not invest in stocks, mutual funds or realty when their prices are quite high. From the high levels, these prices normally come down by about 40-50% and that is when many people lose their hard earned money in a big way.
Make sure that you are not one of those big losers.
Make sure that you invest when prices are low (and that is the case in 2009) and divest when prices are high (which will be the case in Q1-2011).
Please note that Aug-Oct 2009 is expected to be a great period for investing your money in stocks & mutual funds in India.
