India win ODI series in NZ
Sehwag's onslaught

HAMILTON: Virender Sehwag (125 not out) smashed the fastest ODI century by an Indian to fashion the team's 84-run win in the fourth match, also giving the visitors their first One-day series win in New Zealand on Wednesday.

Sehwag's 60-ball hundred, powered by 13 fours and four sixes, bettered Mohammad Azharuddin's 62-ball century against the Kiwis at Baroda (1988-89).

India had earlier restricted New Zealand to 270 for five in 47 overs after the match was truncated following a couple of rain interruptions.

For the hosts, Brendon McCullum (77) and Jesse Ryder (46) added 102 runs for the opening stand while Peter McGlashan (56) and Grant Elliot (35) starred in an unbeaten 95-run stand.

Chiranjeevi to contest from Tirupati

HYDERABAD: Telugu film star and Praja Rajyam Party chief Chiranjeevi has said that he would contest the April 23 election for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from temple town Tirupati.

"Tirupati is fixed. I may also contest from my native Narsapuram in West Godavari district if I decide to stand from a second constituency," Chiranjeevi told reporters at Rajahmundry on Wednesday.

Reacting angrily to the allegations that his party was collecting Rs 2 crore from each aspirant to contest the elections, he said: "Its rubbish. Some coverts planted by the Telugu Desam Party in the PRP are making such allegations. Now, such elements are out of PRP".

WASHINGTON: The new Obama Administration on Wednesday assured India that it will proceed with the landmark Indo-US nuclear deal, signed during George W Bush's tenure, and said the two countries needed to ramp up cooperation in counter-terrorism and global issues such as climate change.

Satyam's valuation may be hit

NEW DELHI: BK Modi's Spice Group has estimated that the liabilities from the dozen-odd class-action lawsuits against Satyam in the US could range between $440-840 million, which could discourage aggressive bidding for the company, by lowering valuation. Spice, one of the early birds to have evinced interest in the scam-hit IT company, said this estimate has been given by its legal advisors.

"We have received a report from our legal advisors Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and they have said that the liabilities could range between $440-840 million. We have to factor this in," Modi told TOI.

Spice Group plans to file expression of interest (EOI) for Satyam on March 12, the last day stipulated for registration for bidding.

A series of class action lawsuits on behalf of thousands of investors in the American Depositary Shares (ADS) of Satyam have been filed for violation of US securities laws after Satyam's disgraced founder B Ramalinga Raju confessed to having cooked up the company's financials for the last many years.

The lawsuits alleged that the misleading statements and inaccurate financial information artificially inflated the value of the ADSs, thus duping American investors billions of dollars. A class action or a representative action is a form of lawsuit where a large group of people collectively bring a claim to court.

I’m not getting to retire: Farah

Farah Khan enjoyed choreographing for Kylie Minogue, but says she’s not easily available anymore.

Reese Witherspoon, Shakira and now Kylie Minogue. Farah Khan has worked with some of the biggest international names. But it’s Kylie who she’s choreographed in the forthcoming Blue that she finds the most down to earth.

“She was so well behaved that sometimes I had to tell her, ‘Can you please behave like a star and throw some tantrums?’ That’s why I’m surprised by tabloid reports of her starry tantrums. It’s untrue.

She came to India with only two people. She used an Indian designer (Manish Malhotra), an Indian spotboy, and shot from 8 am to 9 pm for four days. She posed with all the unit guys for pictures,” reveals Farah.Kylie, who’s returned to Australia, had watched Farah’s Om Shanti Om.

“She’s a great dancer and was very excited to be in Bollywood,” maintains Farah. The AR Rahman composed-song that Kylie and Akshay Kumar have grooved to is divided into two parts.

“Kylie’s part is in English. When Akshay comes in, it becomes a Hindi song with a bit of bhangra thrown in. And then the English and the Hindi versions run together. Obviously, the choreography had to be different for both. Kylie’s part is a lot like performances in international stage shows — very sexy, very Kylie,” states Farah.

Post-OSO, Farah resolved not to choreograph anymore. “But I’m not getting to retire. I can’t help it. I have too many friends in the industry and you have to do certain things because of certain relationships.

I did Billu because it was Shah Rukh’s film. Blue just came out of the blue. But I won’t choreograph in bulk. It should really excite me like Desi Girl in Dostana did,” says Farah.

Next, she’ll choreograph for brother Sajid Khan’s Houseful. “Sajid duped me. He said the film has seven songs. So, I told him I could choreograph only three of them. That’s when he told me that the film has only four songs,” laughs Farah.

Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan and Rakesh Roshan’s Kites are her other projects.

“Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan requested me; Rakesh says I’m lucky for him. Now that I’m doing less work, I get more bhav because people know I’m not easily available. But I die of guilt when I’m away from my babies. When Kylie’s song was being shot, they all fell ill together. It’s called the domino effect. That’s when I told myself, ‘Thank god! I don’t do this every day’. Of course, when I make my next film the babies will be two. I can make a playroom for them on the sets,” says Farah.

Investment & Wealth Creation Advice:

Please note that our advice is primarily for investors and not for speculators. Investors typically invest with 12-60 month investment perspective. You will therefore find that our advice does not change substantially from issue to issue.

We expect Sensex to come down to 6000-7000 level in the next few months. We expect Aug-Oct 09 period to be a very good period for making investments in good stocks / mutual funds in India. So, do plan your investments in advance.

Also, those who want to invest in realty in India should wait for some time as the flat and land prices are expected to come down substantially in the next 3-4 quarters.

Do consult your investment advisor before making any investment decisions.

Do not purchase shares of a good company at a wrong price. Also, do not purchase shares of a bad company even at a very low price.

Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your portfolio to de-risk. Do not put more than 33% of your investible funds in stocks or mutual funds.

Do not invest in stocks, mutual funds or realty when their prices are quite high. From the high levels, these prices normally come down by about 40-50% and that is when many people lose their hard earned money in a big way.

Make sure that you are not one of those big losers.

Make sure that you invest when prices are low and divest when prices are high. Please note that Aug-Oct 2009 is expected to be a great period for investing your money in stocks & mutual funds in India.
